Mr. Carl O. Abner, age 88 of Centre, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Michael Abernathy, Rocky Abernathy and Christy McDonald will be speaking. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his stepsons, Michael (Shirley) Abernathy, Rocky (Mary) Abernathy, Keith (Debbie) Abernathy; Niece, Kathy McCleskey; Nephew, Robert Paul Roysden; Grandchildren, Clay (Natalie) Abernathy, Christy (James) McDonald, Carlos Abernathy, Josh (Jennifer) Abernathy, Matt (Lisa) Abernathy, Mark (Kayla) Abernathy, Rebecca (Aaron) Clark, Michelle (Brant) Lane, Mandy (James) Oliver; Many blessed great grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buel and Bertha Alice Hatmaker Abner; his wife Jean Martin Abner; sisters, Lassie Lou Abner and Barbara Jean Abner Roysden; and his brother Charles "Bud" Abner.
Carl Abner "Boppa" was a strong man of faith. He showed God's love to others on a daily basis. He loved all things related to the Bible, nature, history, family, and classical music. Boppa was involved with Georgia Jaycees, Kiwanis Club of Rome to support children with diabetes. He had a very successful academic career at Cumberland College and Berry College. He enjoyed his career working as the North Georgia Regional Manager for the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), Floyd College, and later V.P. of Floyd Medical Center of Rome, GA. Boppa shared his faith and love for people with everyone he encountered.
We have been blessed to have him in our lives.
