Charles Wheeler

Mr. Charles Eugene Wheeler, age 91 of Centre, passed away on June 13, 2026, at AdventHealth Redmond Hospital in Rome, GA. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chad Foshee officiating. Burial will follow at Old Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. 

He is survived by his wife, Sara Wheeler; daughter, Lisa Burk and son-in-law Jeff Burk; grandsons, Cade Burk, Nick Wheeler (Anna), Asa Wheeler, Grady Wheeler, and Haden Wheeler; granddaughters, Jessen Burk, Harley Wheeler and Harper Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Bryce Wheeler, Emma Wheeler and Reagan Wheeler; daughters-in-law, Lea Anne Wheeler and Cynthia Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Cade Burk, Nick Wheeler, Haden Wheeler, Asa Wheeler, Grady Wheeler and Tim McCord.

Charles was born November 21, 1934, in Floyd County, GA, to Obie and Idella Wheeler. He married the love of his life Sara 66 years ago and they lived in the Flatwoods (McCords Crossroad) Community. Charles loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and felt it important to raise his children in church. He was a member of New Nazareth Baptist Church. He was an avid ball player and enjoyed playing and coaching his children, grandchildren, and neighborhood children in everything including basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, ping pong, and horseshoes. He loved his family and devoted himself to them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Obie and Idella Wheeler; sons, Derrick Wheeler and Keith Wheeler; and sisters, Louella, Lois and Julie.
