Connie Whatley, a proud native of Cherokee County and member of the CCHS Class of 1977, leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and faith. She was the daughter of the late Edward Tucker and Louise Eubanks Longshore, and the granddaughter of the late Roy Thomas and Delorice Eubanks. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Ronnie Arthur, as well as three brothers and one sister.
Connie spent her entire childhood-and well into adulthood-at her grandfather's store, Eubanks Grocery. County Road 19 was a huge staple in her life. When she married Jerry in 2012, she was able to live out her years on County Road 19, the place that always felt like "home." She enjoyed sitting in her recliner, looking out the bay windows toward Mount Wisener. Connie's greatest joy was being "Mama" and "Cee-Cee."
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Whatley; her children, Blake (Jill) Arthur, Holly (Colby) Patterson, Kara (Greg) Cornelius, and Jennifer (Skylar) Ray; and her beloved grandchildren-Eva Kate, Wheeler, Justin, and Asa Arthur, Mackenzie, Zoey, Cooper, and Corbin Patterson, Jaren and Jy (Paige) Lockridge, Seth and Brandon Tucker, and Libby and Ryan Ray.Connie had a daily ritual of listening to the 10:00 news on WEIS, watching The Young and the Restless, and catching her favorite HGTV shows in between-before preparing after-school snacks for her grandchildren, greeting them with love. And according to her youngest grandson, she made the best grilled cheese ever. She loved flowers, any and all projects, all things Christmas, beach trips, weekends with the girls, and ordering a plethora of things off of Temu and SHEIN. She especially loved sharing her Temu and SHEIN carts with two of her granddaughters for their approval. But her happiest place of all was being surrounded by her family.
She served as CCHS cheer sponsor for many years alongside her dear friend, Tara Blanchard. Even after retiring, her heart never left those sidelines-she lived for Friday night lights and was a Warrior through and through.Connie retired from the Cherokee County Board of Education, where her passion for children touched countless lives. She was also a lifelong member of Sardis Hill Baptist Church. To know her was to know kindness, laughter, and unconditional love.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Frickey and Pro Health Hospice for their tender care, with a special thanks to Tammy, Chyanne, and Brandi for their love and compassion during her final days. Her love will continue to live on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the strength of her children, and the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
