Ginger Lynn Gaither Ward
February 29, 1956 – May 3, 2025
Ginger Gaither Ward passed peacefully under palliative care on May 3, 2025, with her daughter by her side. She was 69 years old. Ginger fought a long and courageous battle with end-stage COPD, heart failure, and Lupus.
Born on Leap Day, February 29, 1956, Ginger’s life was marked by resilience, strength, and fierce love. Raised in a children’s home under difficult circumstances, she overcame countless trials from the beginning. From those hardships, she emerged strong-willed, justice-minded, and unwavering in her convictions. She had the heart of an activist and a deep yearning to make the world a kinder, fairer place.
Ginger was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Ward.
She is survived by her children: Eugene Ward, Joe Ward and his wife Lauren, and Sarah Edwards and her husband Jeremy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Amelia Morgan and Taylor Phillips, as well as her loyal granddog, Bo Cephus.
Ginger had a profound love for cats, finding comfort and joy in their companionship. Above all, she wanted to be loved—and she was. She wants her children to know: you are loved.
Her memory will live on in the strength she instilled in her family, the compassion she carried for others, and the quiet yet powerful ways she sought justice in an unjust world.
A memorial service will be held at a later date
