Mrs. Ruth had lived in Centre since 2021, moving from Lafayette, IN where she lived for 8 years after spending 20+ years in Ft. Myers, FL. She was retired from AC Delco / General Motors. She enjoyed going to the beach, collecting shells, knitting and crocheting, and physical fitness including walking, biking and swimming. She was a wonderful woman who seemed fearless. She was a rare person of honesty, integrity, compassion, love, and faith. She went above and beyond in her care for others. We all feel enriched for knowing her and feel blessed by being able to share even a small part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amanda Popejoy; sisters, Margaret Johns and Kate Eaton; and brothers, Emmett Spitler (K.I.A. WWII), and Bill Spitler.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Ruth's memory to Summit's Sanctuary, PO Box 307, Centre, AL 35960, or to the Cherokee County Public Library Building Fund, 310 Mary Street, Centre, AL 35960.
