Mr. Vernon Decker, age 82 of Centre, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 at his residence.
Survivors include his sons, Shane Decker, Matt Decker; Daughter, Amanda Howard; Many beloved grandchildren.
Vernon Decker was born in rural Kentucky in 1942. He was the son of tobacco farmers and one of twelve children. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1964, holding the rank of Airman First Class. He worked as a mechanic after leaving the Air Force and was later an employee of Inland Container corporation for thirty-four years before retiring. Vernon was a talented carpenter who built many self-designed houses, almost single handedly, from the foundation to the roofing, incorporating skills as a plumber and electrician. In his later years, he revealed outstanding creativity as a folk artist. He was known by all to be an honest, hardworking, good man. He was a devout Christian sure of his salvation through his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He now resides in heaven.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cosby Decker; Son, Jeff Wood; Grandsons, Justin Decker and Zachary Decker.
