Virginia Carolyn Mariani, age 85, passed away May 21st, 2026 at Collinsville Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Jimmy) Oliver and Deanna (Ted) Cannon; son, Alan (Darlene) Hale; grandchildren, Scarlett (John) Cox, Celia (Sam) Oliver, Chelsi (Josh) Alexander, and Jo Hale; great-grandchildren, Mason and Dalton Agan, Trinity Rice, and Aeris and Will Pyle; siblings, Ellen (Steve) Walker; sister-in-law, Keiko Comer; and a host of step children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brad Walker, Kevin Ware, Josh Alexander, David Comer, James Comer and John Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Agan, Dalton Agan, and Will Pyle.
Carolyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A proud Cherokee County native and alumnus of Cedar Bluff School, Carolyn carried her hometown roots and strong family values with her throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Nellie Comer; her spouses, Joe Van Hale and David Mariani; and her brothers, William Comer, Bobby Gene Comer, and James F. Comer.
Carolyn will be remembered for her deep love for her family, who were always the center of her world. Carolyn never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide and was a devoted Elvis Presley fan whose music brought her joy throughout the years. She had a feisty spirit, a strong heart, and a way of making those around her feel loved and welcome.
Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. Carolyn's family and friends will forever cherish the moments shared with her and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
